Celebrities are often presumed to be the types to steer clear of the academe, with most of them finishing their school careers at year twelve to focus on an entirely new one in the world of show business. There are, however, a lot of 'exceptions' to this, and some of them attend schools most of us could only dream of or do degrees that we would never have the patience to even bother with.
Some of the names listed here, either of the celebrity or the college, could be quite unexpected, but hopefully they all inspire you to put some work into those applications.
1. Conan O'Brien and Natalie Portman: Harvard University
The TV show icon and actress both graduated from this most prestigious and affluent of all American Universities in their youth, with Natalie Portman doing so while filming Star Wars. O'Brien took away a degree in American History and Literature while Portman had a degree in Psychology.
2. Sacha Baron Cohen (That's Borat for all of you.): The University of Cambridge
The dude who convinced us all the Kazakhstan is the number one exporter of Potassium and that Uzbeks have bones in their brains, is actually a product of one of the oldest and grandest universities in the English world. Cohen graduated from the University of Cambridge with a degree in history.
3. Rowan Atkinson (Mr. Bean this time.): The University of Oxford
Mr. Bean may be a very good contemporary example of what it means to be an awkward, clueless person, but an awkward, clueless person Rowan Atkinson is not. The British comedian graduated not with a degree in English. Not a degree in History, or another subject that falls under a broad definition of the liberal arts but, surprise, Electrical Engineering. How he got into doing shows about someone who has no idea what practical is, is anyone's guess.
4. Emma Watson: Brown University.
Brown is probably the most liberal of the eight ivy league schools, and is well known not only for its selectivity, but also for its free curriculum. No requirements whatsoever, meaning if you don't want to take math for all four years at Brown, you're more than free to do so. Watson attended the university while promoting the Harry Potter films and has certainly shown herself to be capable of things far from the big screen. Ten points for Gryffindor!
5. Dakota Fanning, Elle Fanning, Logan Lerman, Idina Menzel (Frozen) and Adam Sandler: New York University
Most popular school status among high school seniors + The artsy fartsy location at The Village + being in NYC + having the respect of most institutions in the America and the world = Lots and lots of celebs. NYU is quite popular with famous people in particular, but it shouldn't be a surprise. They can attend one of the country's best schools without getting drowned in debt by graduation after all (because of NYU's notoriously limited financial aid). Idina Menzel is a graduate of the university's renowned Tisch school of arts, Sandler received an MFA from the university, and the Fanning sisters are yet to reach the finish line there.
6. Ron Jeremy: Queens College
Don't know him? Don't bother to search (Seriously, NSFW). The person who can famously perform autofellatio did attend college, with a degree in Education and Theatre, but didn't stop at that, earning himself a Master's degree in Special Education.
7. Shaquille O'Neal: Louisiana State University
He promised his mother he's finish his college degree when he left LSU in his third year for the Orlando Magic in the NBA draft. He made good on his promise by finishing his degree in 2000 while with the Lakers and, just like ol' Ron Jeremy, pushed his education further, gaining an Master's degree from the University of Arizona, and Ed.D in Education from Barry University.
