What courses do people just so want to get into, in the Philippines' highest ranked private university?
To be fair, a lot of the courses in the Ateneo are very good. Ateneo's EnLit is ranked among the best in the world, and despite the notion that Ateneo is a liberal artsy sort of school, its science programs are not too shabby. HealthSci, LifeSci, BS Psych, Chem and Math degrees here are respected by peers from other schools.
However, given the rather lengthy list of courses, we opted to pluck out a few of the most popular ones.
Note: This is just a slight modification of the Academics page.
1. AB Economics
Despite the AB in its name, the Ateneo's economics course has a lot of math. It is very rigorous and graduates would often be
employed in banks and financial institutions.
Lots of heavy names here.
Notable Graduates: Noynoy Aquino, Gloria Arroyo, Antonio Carpio (SC Assc. Justice), Tony Meloto (GK founder), Manny Pangilinan (Owner of Smart and PLDT), Maria Lourdes Sereno (SC Chief Justice), Adel Tamano, Amando Tetangco (Central Bank Governor),
2. Health Sciences
HealthSci is a pre-med course that is tailor made for the Ateneo School of Medicine and includes course offerings in "Health Policy and Social Determinants of Health."
Notable Graduates: None that I know of besides Robi Domingo, since the course is still fairly new. The first two valedictorians of the Ateneo Medical School graduated with this degree though, which says much about how its training is made for that specific medical school.
3. Applied Mathematics-Mathematical Finance (AMF)
A hardcore course, for hardcore math geeks.
This is a 5-year program that gives you the option of getting a Master's degree in your 5th year. It is another course that is tailor made for the needs of financial institutions, having been made with them jointly.
Notable Graduates: Similar situation to HealthSci, since it is a new program.
4. Management Engineering
Everyone's dream course it is management course which has a "special focus on quantitative approaches to problem solving."
What this basically means is that there is a lot of math, accounting and statistics that go together with the management part of
Notable Graduates: Its not the oldest course around, but it has already come up with some famous grads, namely, Bam Aquino,
Aurelio Montinola (BPI CEO), plus the crushes-ng-bayan Chris Tiu and Gretchen Ho. :D
