St. John's University is a private Catholic university in that is run by the Vincentian Order, the same order that runs Adamson University in the Philippines. It is located in the greater New York City Metropolitan Area, and shares the unique experience of the world's capital with other institutions like Columbia, New York University, and Fordham.
Some of its notable alumni include Mario Cuomo, former Governor of New York State and William Casey, former director of the CIA.
Dr. Gempesaw has come a long way. He was educated by the Jesuits in the Philippines, at Ateneo de Davao University, where he majored in economics, then moved to the United States to do further studies. He received his M.S. in Agricultural Economics from West Virginia University, then later, his Ph.D from Penn State.
Prior to his position at St. John's, Dr. Gempesaw held posts as Provost at Miami University, and Dean of the University of Delaware's Business and Economics school.
