Admissions: How to Get into DLSU
The admission process to De La Salle is not a straightforward process of taking the DCAT/DLSUCET and getting high enough to pass. DLSU requires that you procure letters of recommendation from your teachers in high school. This is because DLSU's admission process, in contrast to that of UST and UP's, is more holistic and they take into account your personal as well as your academic qualities.
In terms of competitiveness and selectivity, it more or less follows the general order given through international rankings, which puts it at around 3rd or 4th among Philippine universities. UP, of course, is the most selective with an acceptance rate of around 16% system wide, while Ateneo comes behind it with an acceptance rate of around 20-25%.
There are no official figures released, but with 3835 freshmen enrolling at DLSU, taking into account the 19,949 applicants and pegging the yield rate to 50%, DLSU's acceptance rate should be at around 38%, which still makes it one of the most selective institutions in the Philippines, with roughly 2 out of every 3 applicants denied for admission.
The key to getting into DLSU, as with other universities, is to work hard, practice for your DCAT/DLSUCET and present yourself well as a person in your application, although we must stress that there is no substitute to doing well in your high school and making the most of your experiences for the last four years.
Students with special talents could also get special consideration. De La Salle University, as most of you probably know too well, has a very robust athletics program, with one of the best basketball and volleyball teams around, so applicants who have a track record of success in this field, as well as other fields DLSU are looking to compete in, would probably have a leg up in the process.
